Show Your Support for Earned Sick Days at Next Week’s Assembly Labor Committee Hearing

Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. is proud to announce that legislators have heeded our call to advance a statewide earned sick days bill (A-2354), and they have scheduled a hearing in the Assembly Labor Committee for this Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.

The hearing will be an opportunity for our coalition and its many progressive partners to make the case for guaranteeing earned sick days to all New Jersey workers. This is our chance to show the immense amount of grassroots support that there is for this vital pro-family policy.

Last year, our coalition guaranteed workers a long-overdue raise, and this year we will enact a policy which respects every worker’s right to get sick without having to sacrifice hard earned wages. We will seek to prove that this policy is not only good for workers and public health, but also enhances local businesses, which often have no choice but to deny paid sick days in order to compete with the standard set by Big Business. This law would create a moral and level playing field for workers and certainly boost employee performance and morale.

We sincerely thank Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt (D-6) and Assemblyman Raj Mukherji (D-33) for their sponsorship of this bill in the Assembly. Once again, it is a testament to your hard work that this bill has come this far. With your continued support, we will succeed in achieving a statewide earned sick days law. Please be sure to join us next Thursday in Trenton.
