Reminder for Hudson CLC Labor/Community Grassroots Meet-and-Greet

As a reminder, the Hudson Central Labor Council will host a labor/community grassroots meet-and-greet next week. All local community members, labor organizations, civic groups, students, neighborhood associations, and faith leaders are welcome to participate. The event will provide an opportunity to discuss the priorities and objectives of our community and understand how our organizations can work together to accomplish our shared goals.

MAY 8th EARNED SICK LEAVE KICK-OFF POSTPONED

Please note that our scheduled May 8, 2014, Earned Sick Leave campaign kick-off has been postponed. Several of our coalition members and legislative advocates have been invited to the White House for a special event focused on New Jersey’s working families. We want to make sure that they can be with us as we undertake the very important issue of ensuring every worker has the ability to take a day off when they are sick without losing pay. Also, we are certain that our partners will be able to learn even more valuable information that they will bring back with them to further aid our efforts across the state.

Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. Honored by AFTNJ with “Friend of Labor” Award

AFT_NJ_Convention_1.jpgThis past Saturday, Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. (WFUNJ) was honored with the “Friend of Labor” award at the American Federation of Teachers New Jersey (AFTNJ) 2014 biennial convention at the Rutgers Labor Education Center in New Brunswick. The award recognized the WFUNJ coalition for its efforts to educate and mobilize a statewide grassroots movement in support of raising New Jersey’s minimum wage. The WFUNJ “Raise the Wage” campaign spanned approximately eight months, it united the efforts of over 256 labor and community organizations, and represented one of the most sweeping and effective community education programs in state history.
