Assembly to Advance Earned Sick Days Legislation this September

Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. is pleased to inform our coalition partners that the Assembly plans to advance a bill (A-2354) in September which would establish a statewide earned sick days law for all workers in New Jersey.

“We commend Speaker Prieto for his support of statewide earned sick leave legislation,” said Edward Correa, Executive Director of Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc., a statewide grassroots coalition consisting of over 256 partner organizations that has been leading the campaign for a statewide earned sick leave initiative. “New Jersey workers should not have to choose between a day’s pay and possibly exposing co-workers and customers to illness. This bill is a win-win for employees and healthy workplaces.”

We need to make sure our legislators continue to hear from us about the importance of passing such a bill. To forward a message asking your legislators to support earned sick days, please CLICK HERE.

There are approximately 1.2 million workers (37 percent) in New Jersey who do not have access to earned sick days. As a result, when these workers get sick, they are forced to make the unfair choice between a paycheck and tending to their health. Allowing workers to take off work when they get sick is common sense. Such a policy would support the health of workers and their families, businesses, and the community.

We need to make it clear that New Jersey needs earned sick days. CLICK HERE to send a message to your legislators today.
