The opening of a second We Are One New Jersey Center is a tremendous opportunity for thousands more immigrant families seeking to become U.S. citizens, obtain a greater knowledge of the democratic process, and exercise their voices at the ballot box. The Union County center, which is located in the City of Elizabeth, will also provide comprehensive educational/guidance services including preparatory classes for the U.S. citizenship test, DACA application assistance, and consultation on current immigration policies and workplace rights. All of the center’s services are provided at low- or no-cost. For more information visit: www.weareonenj.org.

Speakers included New Jersey State Senator Raymond Lesniak, Assembly members Annette Quijano and Jamel Holley, Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage, Union County Freeholder Chair Mohamed S. Jalloh, Union County Freeholder Sergio Granados, New Jersey State AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Laurel Brennan, and many community and faith-based leaders.

Union County is a shining example of the strength of diversity having been built on the unique cultures, innovation, and dreams of generations of immigrant families. For the next generation of immigrants, the Union County Center makes it easier than ever before to navigate through the citizenship process and work towards achieving the American Dream.

The Union County immigrant empowerment center is a joint project of We Are One New Jersey and the County of Union that continues to thrive with the support of labor, faith, civil rights, and many progressive community organizations. Working Families United for New Jersey remains an essential partner in this endeavor thanks to the work of our Board and many coalition partners, which have dedicated extensive time and resources to building the centers in Hudson and Union counties.

Our coalition is proud to continue supporting We Are One New Jersey as part of our mission to ensure the full involvement of community members in our state democratic process so that the voice of working families is heard. Our success will continue to depend on the support and participation of WFUNJ Board members and over 256 dedicated community partners.
