WFUNJ Applauds State Senate Passage of Earned Sick Days

Today’s Senate floor vote, in favor of a statewide earned sick days law (S-785), marks a major step forward in our coalition’s ongoing campaign to ensure that 1.2 million hard working New Jerseyans no longer have to choose between their health and their paycheck. The bill passed mostly along party lines, 22 to 17. Our coalition thanks the bill’s many supporters, its prime sponsor Senator Loretta Weinberg, and Senate President Steve Sweeney for bringing this bill to the floor.

It is clear that the collective voice of Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. is being heard by lawmakers. This victory could not have been achieved without the focused and unwavering support of our coalition partners, who remain as dedicated as ever in the fight for this important measure to ensure workplace justice.

With your continued support, Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. will continue to be front-and-center in the campaign for statewide earned sick days, which we anticipate will be put to an Assembly floor vote in the coming months. As always, we will keep you apprised of the latest developments, so that we can enact a law that benefits millions of New Jerseyans inside and outside of the workplace.
