There are approximately 1.2 million workers in our state who are currently denied the ability to take a paid sick day from work. This situation continues to produce harsh and unfair conditions for families and communities. Therefore, we ask all coalition partners to join with us next week to demonstrate our support for a much needed earned sick leave bill (A-2354) being heard by the Assembly Budget Committee.

The case for reform is clear. Workers who spend day after day on the job should not have to sacrifice needed wages just because they or their children get sick. Unsurprisingly, sick workers are less productive, and it is beneficial to employers to provide them with the time needed to recover or seek medical attention. When workers can’t afford to call in sick, they risk infecting coworkers and customers; they may also be unable to keep a sick child home from school.
Earned sick days is not only good for workers and public health, but also enhances local businesses. This law would create a moral and level playing field for workers and certainly boost employee performance and morale.
With your continued support, we will succeed in achieving a statewide earned sick days law. Please be sure to join us on Monday, December 15th in Trenton.
