The Working Families United for New Jersey (WFUNJ) coalition applauds President Obama’s decision to take executive action on immigration and urges the House of Representative to enact Comprehensive Immigration Reform legislation.

There are nearly 400,000 Legal Permanent Residents (LPRs) living in New Jersey, who are currently eligible to become citizens. However, for many of these individuals and families, the process can be challenging. The grand opening of the We Are One New Jersey Hudson County Center marks a turning point for our state and thousands of New Americans who have long dreamed of becoming U.S. citizens.

Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. (WFUNJ) continues to spearhead efforts across New Jersey for a statewide earned sick days law. Today, those efforts have brought us one step closer to our goal. Following a second round of testimony, the Assembly Labor Committee voted 6 to 3 to release statewide earned sick days legislation (A-2354). A full vote breakdown is as follows:

Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. (WFUNJ) continues to spearhead efforts across New Jersey for a statewide earned sick days law. We thank all of our progressive grassroots partners from across the state, who joined with us today in support of the earned sick days bill (A-2354), being heard by the Assembly Labor Committee. This bill would allow employees to earn a limited amount of paid time off to use if they or a family member fall ill.

Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. is proud to announce that legislators have heeded our call to advance a statewide earned sick days bill (A-2354), and they have scheduled a hearing in the Assembly Labor Committee for this Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.

Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. was proud to spearhead the “Raise the Wage” campaign last year to win approval of the statewide minimum wage ballot initiative. Together, we united over 256 progressive grassroots organizations and worked to build support in communities all across the state. We often said during the campaign that, “Together we will make history!” and today we are living that history.

Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. congratulates its Chair, Charles Hall, Jr., on a recent appointment to serve on the City of Newark’s Board of Adjustments. Charles is a son of Newark, whose devotion to the city’s future runs deep.
