Earned Sick Days

In February 2014, Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. was asked by legislative leadership to shepherd another social economic justice campaign for working families on “Earned Sick Days”. Earned sick days is a commonsense public health initiative which would reduce the spread of illness in our communities, promote healthier more productive businesses, and allow all workers to take a sick day, without the fear of losing much needed income or worse – their jobs.

One Pathway, Many Voices, Stronger Communities

In New Jersey, there are currently 390,000 legal permanent residents, who are eligible to become U.S. citizens. The “One Pathway, Many Voices, Stronger Communities” initiative will provide comprehensive guidance services to help thousands of New Jersey immigrants achieve U.S. citizenship and encourage their participation in the civic process by registering them to vote and educating them about their voting and labor rights.

About Us

Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. is a non-partisan statewide grassroots coalition consisting of over 256 religious, labor, community, civil rights, student, progressive, women, and retirees groups collectively committed to engaging community members in the democratic process, promoting issue education, and building a better life for New Jersey’s working families.

We believe social and economic justice, in the workplace and our communities, are achieved by promoting good jobs, a living wage, green jobs, quality affordable health care, workers’ rights, affordable education, and a state budget which reflects the economic priorities of the middle class. We recognize the value of public safety and emergency services, as well as many essential programs including special needs student education, women’s health care services, and tax relief for middle income families. We believe in policies that support middle class families and lift up our economy simultaneously.

Working Families United for New Jersey, Inc. is dedicated to the pursuit of these goals and will work with its coalition partners to grow and exercise our collective voice.

Register to Vote

Practicing your right to vote – and voting for candidates who support issues important to working families – is the most effective way to making sure government stands up for our communities. New Jersey holds multiple elections every year, but in order to cast your ballot you must first be registered to vote. If you are a United States citizen who will be at least 18 years of age by the next election, and have lived in your current county for at least 30 days, you’re eligible to register to vote at your current address. You must register to vote at least 21 days prior to the upcoming election.
